“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.” *
What do you remember about your grandmother while growing up? Mine could make the absolute best dessert; I'm still trying to perfect her pancakes. She could stitch the hole in a sock so that it looked almost new again. She crochet beautifully. My grandmother was kind and strong with a generous heart.
And I know that she prayed for me.
What do you remember about your aunt while growing up? Mine dressed splendidly, she still does. She can prepare a whole meal, set a beautiful table and host people. She was always game for any sewing project I thought up. She is creative and strong with a gracious heart.
And I know that she prayed for me.
What do you remember about your mom growing up? I remember how my mom could make one-pot meals with almost no ingredients and it was absolutely delicious. I remember her never leaving the house without lipstick. I remember watching movies on TV with her, oh, how she loves the true stories. I hear her laughter and I remember her reading to us at night before bed. She is a truth-seeker and strong, with a selfless and loving heart.
And I know that she prayed for me.
The song The Blessing by Kari Jobe and Cody Carnes bears witness to the incredible beauty and faithfulness of God throughout generations.
“May His favor be upon you
And a thousand generations
Your family and your children
And their children, and their children.”
Lord
You see when no one else does
You hear when no one else does
You gather all the words
from all the loved ones
prayers prayed
in love
in concern
in heartache
in desperation
words SHOUTED and whispered
with inadequacy
with wisdom
with humility
with strength
throughout each generation
You hold all these words heavy with emotion
and
You turn Your face
with grace
to shine upon us
to give us peace
and to bless us
“I am passionately in love with God because he listens to me. He hears my prayers and answers them.” **
Let us keep our faces turned to Him and let us pray for our children, our grandchildren, our nieces and our nephews: the next generation.
Remember, He is for you.
