“The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God.” *
I have wanted to understand beauty for a long time and for just as long I have wanted to be beautiful. I have, however, come to the conclusion that beauty is a journey and I have to walk with God to see myself and my beauty.
There is no arriving at beauty in a day. True beauty covers so many different aspects, it can never be just one part. We have all heard about outside and inside beauty, the inside being our character and the outside being our bodies and what we look like. I want to suggest that it's never been just those two parts but a circle with three main parts that together create a whole and complete picture.
“You are all the colours in one, in full brightness.” - Theodore Finch, All the Bright Places
If you take the three primary colours in the colour wheel: red, green, and blue – and say your relationship with God is red, your inside beauty is green and your outside beauty is blue – you need all three of those colours to start mixing all the other colours.
To me
our relationship with God
and
everything on the inside of us
and
everything on the outside of us
work together
to form a picture of truth.
I believe that our beauty lies in wholeness, which we find in God’s truth and that it comes from spending time with Him. It’s about not trying to overcompensate in any one area to make up for another area. If you think about a colour wheel and all the different colours it shows, it would be sad if instead of each colour being represented, the wheel consisted of only one or two colours. You are not just a body, nor just feelings – a relationship with God includes both of these.
Someone that reflects the coming together of those three colours in an amazing way for me is the Proverbs 31 woman.
Her praises get sung for everything she is and does:
She has trust
She loves generously
She shops
She knits
She sews
Her skills surprise
She creates
She puts food on the table
She organises
She has wisdom
She invests time and money
She plants a garden
She knows her worth
She watches
She sees
She takes care
Of
Herself
And
The people she loves
She knows joy
Her life delights
She is beautiful
I believe she was a woman that discovered herself and her strengths because of her relationship with God. And together with her faith, her inside and her outside sang in many different colours. A mixture of colours He intended specially for her. In the same way, yours and mine carry our own uniqueness. He has a picture of you, in full colour. Journey with Him and see what He already sees.
My Prayer
I pray that you will be delightfully surprised by the colours that flow from those three main colours coming together. A picture of you in truth and beauty.
Amen
The Message translation refer to Jesus as Prince of Wholeness. It always blessed me. This added to that picture for me! Thank you.
